Persson has regularly appeared on television and in newspapers giving his expert commentary on notable crime cases and has auctioned several crime fiction novels. In 1977 he was a whistleblower in the Geijer Scandal regarding Prime Minister Olof Palme about Minister of Justice Lennart Geijer’s connections to a prostitution ring in Stockholm. His Evert Backstrom novels provided the basis for the 2015 television series Backstrom, for which Persson also served as executive producer. He has won a Best Swedish Crime Novel Award for three of his books and also received the Glass Key award in 2011.
