He was hired to do play-by-play and public relations for the Port Huron Flags of the IHL and then worked for the Maine Mariners of the AHL. His first NHL job was as the New Jersey Devils’ first announcer from 1982 to 1986. Emrick has worked for CBS, ABC, ESPN, TNT, Fox, and more. He won the NHL’s Lester Patrick Award in 2004 and the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award by the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2008. He became the first media member inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2011.
