In April 2009 he defeated Jose Rojas to win the WBA Featherweight title. Gamboa won the vacant IBF Featherweight championship in September 2010. He won the Interim WBA Super Featherweight title in December 2012 and the Interim WBA Lightweight title in Jun 2013. Gamboa’s first loss came from Terence Crawford in June 2014 for the WBO Lightweight title. His last fight was a victory against Joel Montes de Oca in November 2011 to bring his professional record to 24-1. Gamboa was stripped of the WBA and IBF Featherweight Championships.
